Dear Colleagues:
As the tutor for Miss Furnival Han in writing her undergraduate thesis, I greatly appreciate her for her solid grounding professional knowledge. I found it my duty to recommend her for further studies abroad when she asked me to do her the favor.
I began to know Miss Han when I received a commendatory letter from a privately-run school. Our department has all along organized student service programs in a community. Her class was engaged in a mutual aid program at a private school, and Miss Han played a vital role in the program. First of all it was her sincere attitude that won her class the honor of serving in the program out of many class collectives. As the program organizer, Miss Han did much investigation work prior to the inauguration of the program. For e_ample, she acquired information from the college leadership in advance and distributed the workload according to practical conditions (dividing the class into different groups according to age and according to study capacities). The program was carried out in proper order and yielded good effects, winning unanimous good comments from both the college leadership and the community.
Besides, Miss Han‘s leadership capacity is also worth mentioning. She began to assume the post of a study committee member when she was a third-year student. Her gifted affinity and personal charms soon won her the credit from her classmates. In less than in semester, her class leapt from the last to the top of all classes in the same grade in terms of academic records and style of study. Thanks to its outstanding performance, the class was appraised as the top best in study style in the whole college. Sure enough, e_tracurricular management and organizing took up much of her time, but she made proper arrangements so that she was among the best in her academic performance in her class and she was e_cellent in GPA specialty above all.
When writing her Bachelor Degree thesis she told me she was greatly interested in the studies on Thomas Hardy (1840 - 1926). I was really shocked when she asked me the startling question whether on earth Hardy was a fatalist or not. This was because few students would ever think of raising such an in-depth question at that time. So I encouraged her to probe deeper into the question. In between she thumbed through many works by and about the English novelist and poet. This embraced some highly sophisticated contents that ta_ed great comprehension efforts. But in defiance of all difficulties she finished reading a dozen of very difficult books, jotting down detailed notes in the meanwhile. Encountering hard nuts to crack, she would ask for instructions modestly and I was only too glad to probe deep with her because it was always so pleasant to communicate with her. Her optimism makes her very agreeable and affectionate to others. The strict logic and acumen of thought made the process of thesis preparations in good order. Although she graduated several years ago, she shows great respect for her teachers and comes to visit me from time to time. I also like this student very much.
Due to limitations of research conditions in China today, I am very eager that an e_cellent student like her may have the chance to study abroad and make contribution to future researches in China.

Subject: Letter of Recommendation for Jane Smith
To Whom It May Concern:
It is with enthusiasm and enjoyment that I am writing to support Jane Smith’s application to the USC physical therapy program. For over 30 years I have been a faculty member of UCLA in the biology department. In addition I have supervised many research laboratories and counseled many students seeking professional advancement. I hope my view and opinion of Jane Smith will be beneficial to the University of Southern California physical therapy admissions committee as you evaluate this e_ceptional candidate.
I first came in contact with Jane during the spring semester of 2001, when she entered my office needing advice over respective class scheduling. During the course of our discussion, she presented the idea that she would like to be a physical therapist with a bachelor’s degree in biology from UCLA. It was apparent at the time that she was highly motivated to achieve this goal and would be an e_ceptionally strong student.
During the time I have known Jane, she has shown energetic enthusiasm for learning and openness to new ideas. Jane was a student in Microbiology 400 and Microbiology 600 on my class schedule. In these classes she e_hibited an eagerness for knowledge and an understanding of the instructed principles of the class. She scored at the top of her class on all verbal and written e_aminations during this time.
Since then Jane was asked to participate on the Biology student review committee developing insight into e_isting and new curriculums. This was considered an honor for a junior student on the committee at the time. She proved herself a leader among her peers and was responsible for hosting prospective research companies at UCLA interested in the biology research. Her skills were apparent to all. Even the dean mentioned her in an annual review to the faculty at the end of the semester.
I know Jane is highly motivated and interested in practicing physical therapy. Jane is a kind and compassionate individual who is committed to helping people through medicine. She has fulfilled the degree requirements of UCLA with e_ceptional scores and enhanced the biological sciences program. I have the highest admiration for her achievements.
I advise you to thoughtfully consider Jane Smith’s application. I look forward to seeing her future success in the physical therapy field.
Sincerely,

Dear Professor,
I am greatly grateful that you can spare some time to read my letter. I am a Chinese undergraduate from __, which is one of the top 10 universities in China, and I will graduate in 20__. After that, I want to continue my education by pursuing a master degree in France. I am now in the department of __.
My primary interest is in international commerce, and I notice that ESSEC is on top of that field, so I decide to e_ert myself to get in. Your research in “cross-cultural relationship marketing”, especially your publications on business of China as well as Southeast Asia, are of particular interest to me. And I would like to deal with business between Europe and China in my career. That's why I seek entry to your theme.
During my university years, I am used to working in a team environment. For e_ample, I was administrative vice minister in Student Union, and organized and schemed activities along with competitions in university. For my e_cellent job, I gained the scholarship for entertainment and physical education activities. After passing College English Tests 4&6, I turned to learn French last year and I got a score of 463 in TCF. I am preparing for IELTS currently, and if GMAT is necessary for applying master degree in ESSEC, I shall take the test after the IELTS test.
With so much admiration and enthusiasm, I hope I would have the opportunity to work under your supervision. If admitted, I am able to continue working along the lines of your present research. Thanks for your kindness and consideration.
